The last few weeks with Camden

So the past few weeks have been definitely filled with busy-ness. Between outings with CAMDEN, working at the vet hospital and having class at the two prisons, I've been a busy girl. So sorry for the delay in the blogging.

The first weekend CAMDEN was here, he accompanied me to Walmart to do my grocery shopping and was a superstar. He met many other shoppers and even helped me pick a can of corn off the shelf. On Tuesday, September 8th, he went to the prison with me to help me teach my three classes. Of course he served as a great demo dog when there was need to show a specific command. That following Friday, we had a very rigorous training session at the camp. CAMDEN along with LIA , SOLOMON and AUSHA really left me impressed with all the inmate trainers in both the SFF and the camp. That weekend CAMDEN went with me and my family to our favorite restaurant, Cheddars. The waitress didn't even know he was there until halfway through the meal. He's very good just like his big brother!!!!
On Tuesday, September 13th, one of our paws4vets veterans, Jennifer went in to the womens prison for a training session with the inmates. CAMDEN of course made friends with her!! He's pretty good at that!! That evening he went with me to Walmart and Petco to pick up a few things for my apartment. Of course on Friday he went to the prison with me to teach class. This past weekend we did some exploring and some visiting. On Saturday we drove all around on the backroads and magically ended up at Sonic!!! Too bad its in PA and not in WV. Maybe someday. Anyway, on the way home we found a beautiful little park and explored it some before it was getting dark. On Sunday we went to my parents house to go to church and visit with them. Then we headed back to my apartment because Kyria finally came over to see my new apartment.
Yesterday was my last day with the boy :( He's such a good dog and I will definitely miss him. My roommate and her boyfriend will miss him also. They said if he came up missing last night, don't call them!!!

I was very grateful to have him for these two weeks. CAMDEN had a double role- he was not only practicing his good service dog skills and manners but also was an excellent therapy dog to my family who just very recently lost our Golden. We miss her very much every day. He seemed to know just what to do to help us at that moment.

He's going to be a great service dog! Alex is going to be a lucky boy to have such a great furry friend!!!

  1. We are just so fortunate to have very special and loving people training CAMDEN. Heidi, I am so sorry about your dog. It's been a year since we lost Macey and finally I can say it is getting easier. Huge hugs from Alex's family.
