Herndon Elementary School Career Fair

The month of April is really flying by and I would be remiss in allowing the month to pass and not update you on a special event paws4people attends each year: the Career Fair at Herndon Elementary School. Each year, students dress-up as their favorite occupation. Handlers Allison Kaminsky, Debbie Fox and Elaine Johnson introduced their paws4people dogs to future photographers, reporters, ministers, taw kwan do teachers, and veterinarians. The kids thoroughly enjoyed meeting the dogs: IZZY, MOLLY and MAX.
paws4people was invited to attend the career fair along with many different types of employers, business people, entrepreneurs, law enforcement representatives, chefs, and so many others, to show children the variety of professions available in the world of business.

You can imagine that a school which houses pre-kindergarten through grade 6 and contains over 700 students made for quite a busy time for everyone. The children were anxious to discuss their aspirations, and - you guessed it - meet the dogs! They were surprised to learn that paws4people dogs are allowed in classrooms to help children learn. Even more surprising was when the children learned that we even walk the dogs in the hallways at school!

Students are inspired when they learn that dogs help people in many different kinds of situations and can be taught to do many kinds of tasks, like turning light switches on and off, helping to untie shoes, detecting seizures before they happen.

I hope you enjoy some of the photos we took during the event. We really enjoyed being there!
