Hello Everyone!

Please forgive the long delay in updating the SOLOMON saga. We have been very busy-training in the community, visiting school and all the regular excitement. In addition to this, SOLOMON has been working hard to help me get two new prison training programs off the ground. Three weeks ago, SOLOMON, ADDIE, Terry and I took a trip to Jesup, Georgia to interview and select trainers for a new prison training program. We had a very successful two days choosing our p4p trainers (a whirlwind, like most p4p trips!) At the men's camp, we chose two gentlemen who will be traveling up to Hazleton for several months to learn about our program, expectations, and academics. These two men will help get the training program off the ground upon their return. The staff and community in Jesup have been absolutely incredible in their support of paws4people. We are incredibly excited to work with them more.
The last two weeks, SOLOMON and I started boot camp with 8 trainers, 4 writers and program support at Alderson in West Virginia. Boot Camp is an intensive training all about paws4people. In a very short time, these ladies have to learn command sets, how to apply the commands in everyday life, program expectations, how to handle dogs, start a rigorous academic program, pass tests with at least a 90% (or they risk getting kicked out of the program), receive dogs, transfer them into their new lives with as little stress as possible, learn new routines for themselves and their dogs, begin public speaking and work really hard on interpersonal relationships so that they can become a successful core training group. Nothing less than their best is acceptable for our p4p dogs. The ladies were exstatic to receive SADIE, DEJA, IVY, and PUMPKIN at the end of the first week. SOLOMON was there to cheer them on and graciously allowed all of the trainers to practice commands on him.
SOLOMON has been a gentleman. He is a great ambassador. He continues to settle down and has reached the focused "work mode" while we are out in public. Next week, Terry will take SOLOMON for the next 6 weeks while Kyria and I are in CA. With Terry, SOLOMON will have the opportunity to visit his best girl, Erin, as well as visit her school, home and spend time with the family. It will be a critical period in his journey of becoming a fully trained service dog. Guess Terry will need to blog then and keep you all up to date! :)

I will continue to blog here to let everyone know all the details about the CA trip! Can't wait!!
