I apologize for not blogging this week. My parents were visiting for Fiona's birthday (she turned 2 on tuesday!) and I wasn't able to have very many adventures with SOLOMON. However, on friday Candace picked SOLOMON and I up and we were on our way to Wilmington's Azalea Festival. SOLOMON snoozed most of the way with his head on Candace's bag in the back seat. We got to Wilmington by about 7:30pm and introduced SOLOMON to Angie's dog, Abby. Abby is a sweet 7 year old Cocker Spaniel. She is truly one of the nicest cockers I've ever met. Well, she was quite excited to have our big, handsome boy come stay at her house. They got along wonderfully and no one had seen Abby move so much or so fast as she chased SOLOMON around the back yard. I swear it was like watching little girls chase little boys out on the school playground. SOLOMON quickly wore her out and when we came in, he found her toy box, opened it, and proceeded to take all her stuffed toys out and squeak them and toss them in the air for his own entertainment (we were quite entertained as well).
Saturday was a big day at the festival. Angie had brilliantly assigned everyone shifts this year. Candace, SOLOMON and I worked from about 11 to 3:30. Angie and Candace, super dedicated, had gotten up at 5:30 that morning to set up the booth (no one was allowed in after 6:30 am). We had a great turn out. The festival officials said they expected 350 thousand people throughout the weekend. The day was beautiful, starting off cold in the morning with the breeze but was hot by the afternoon. SOLOMON worked the crowd like a pro. He studied and took notes from his more distinguished mentor, KOJAK, and then knew exactly what to do. SOLOMON was very much like KOJAK in this event. He not only accepted all the petting and attention with good grace, but thoroughly enjoyed it. By the end of the shift he was exhausted, but the car ride home livened him right up again. The sight of his new girlfriend, Abby was enough to restore his energy-they played much of the night.
We start our shift at 9:00 today so I'll blog this evening to let you know how it goes!
