Fieldtrips, fieldtrips

CAMDEN and I have been taking lots of fieldtrips. We've been to the Concord Mills Mall, the Carolina Mall, Walmart, the library, Lowes, Petco, Target and the park. We've had several training sessions together in the house and yard practicing his skills with and without the wheelchair and yesterday we took our first trip together with the wheelchair. He did a beautiful job! We practiced lots of retrieves. He retrieved my library card (that was a toughie), socks, my wallet, and glasses case with and without the laser pointer. (For those of you unfamiliar with CAMDEN he has been trained to retrieve anything that you shine the laser pointer on.) He does great handling himself around the wheelchair and stayed right with me when I had to go super slow down some ramps. I can tell the hardest thing for CAMDEN right now is that he wants to go visit people OH SO BAD! He is so affectionate and if someone looks at him and says "He's such a beautiful dog!" he just melts into a puddle and wants to wiggle and get a pet. He's a lot of fun. He and my dog Paco enjoy playing a bit together, but Paco tires quickly of all his young dog antics. Last night Paco told CAMDEN nicely that he was done and retired himself upstairs. CAMDEN, though, wasn't done and proceeded to chase his tail until I let him know that dignified service dogs didn't do things like that!
