First Field Trip

Yesterday, we took our first field trip to the local mall. It was a production, let me tell you! Imagine: 12 handlers +
12 dogs + 12 wheelchairs (to be broken down, loaded, unloaded, put together and then do it all over again) + 3 instructors + a really hot day = a whole lot of craziness! I am certain the people at the mall thoroughly enjoyed watching a long single file line of wheelchairs and dogs moving through the entire building! We practiced heeling for a bit, then would stop and practice retrieving, then heel, then pulling, heeling, etc. It was a BIG afternoon. We met up outside the Baskin-Robbins afterwards to recap. One of our instructors, Molli, told us we were welcome to go in and get ice cream, but we had to go in wheelchairs (with dogs, of course). Well, I thought, if she's issuing a "challenge" then I have to do it. So we did, and it was difficult! Maneuvering the wheelchair, door (with no automatic button), keeping a eye on the dog so she doesn't lick ice cream off the floor, picking from the flavors that I could see (since I was short in the wheelchair and couldn't move around because the store was crowded), being a little too short to hand money over and maneuvering back out.....whew!!! Chrissy and I were whipped at the end of the day-we came back and collapsed on the bed for at least an hour til we could think about moving again!

Today we plan on renting a car with Kyria and Jennie and doing some real shopping!
