But as we go along this process, I must say that my bundle of nerves is getting considerably smaller, and my faith in LEXI's abilities is growing. As I hoped (but didn't necessarily expect), LEXI showered all the kids with her kisses, she wasn't nervous at all around the taller group of students, and she wasn't bothered by the appearance and noise of the wheelchair or walker. YAY!!
Our shining moment today was when a young girl who had difficulty with clear expressive speech wanted to give commands to LEXI. LEXI seemed to have an affinity for this young lady, she definitely got the most kisses of the day!! This young girl told LEXI a very clear 'sit!', and my little angel pup obeyed immediately, and then showered her with kisses again as the supportive teaching staff gave her an applause. Man, that was a heart-tugger!! :-)
LEXI and I are working hard on 'heel' so that the students can have turns walking her. At this time she's either pulling out of excitement or she's slipping all over the slick floors! The kids today did great as I held lower on the leash and they held it higher up. Next time I'll bring a second leash to attach to her collar (thanks for that advice Allison!!)
What a fun afternoon, LEXI's off to her post-visit nap!
