Ducks From Outerspace

Today SOLOMON and I took a walk around a lake that's close to shopping and restaurants in the University area of Charlotte. I thought it would be good because it's a new place for him-always trying to expand his comfort zone, you know. Holy cow, little did I know that ducks would blow the poor boy's mind! Apparently he hasn't ever seen ducks (or geese) before, because all he could do was stop and stare like he had just seen aliens. I guess, really, for him they were aliens! Then, he saw the babies-a long line of duck babies and a geese babies all within 5 feet or so of us. Whoa! This was a true test of his self control and heeling progress because he did not pull! (YAHOO) and when he could wrap his mind around it, walked relatively well with me. He was weaving in and out and running into me because he was trying to watch the ducks and heel at the same time. Kudos to my boy for being distracted but trying to do the right thing despite the aliens!

He's also been helping me clean. Really. One of the first things that Kyria told me about SOLOMON is that he's very affectionate and bonds strongly. This is SO true. And, he wants to BE with you. For example, he lays on Marcie's feet when she's putting her make-up on in the morning. If I'm working in the kitchen and am standing still at the counter for more than two minutes, he'll lay right behind me so his back is touching my legs. If I get up to use the bathroom at 3am, he comes with (eyes barely open). Cleaning was a new way for SOLOMON to be CLOSE. He literally stuck his head in the bathtub while I was scrubbing it-not just to check things out and walk away-but for the entire duration of the job. Just, you know, to be there. When I was vacuuming the stairs he stood on the stairs above me to watch, and backed up a step as I progressed up the stairwell. He's such a ham! (Right now he's laying on my feet while I type this blog.) He's also helped with laundry and opened and closed the frig for me as I made my peanut butter and jelly for lunch. Needless to say, he's a lot of fun and is GREAT company. One cannot be lonely when SOLOMON is around!
